Teach kids about diabetes – Angara
Expressing concern over the health of children and their food choices, Senator Edgardo Angara continues to pursue the inclusion of diabetes modules in the basic educational curriculum.
“The number of Filipinos diagnosed with diabetes is rising each year, including children as young as eight (8) or nine (9) years old,” said Angara, who chairs the Senate Committee on Education, Arts and Culture.
With countless kids today dieting on either processed or instant food products, the senator wants to keep children well-informed about diabetes by incorporating a module in their educational curriculum that would make them knowledgeable about the disease.
This program, called The Power of Prevention Through Fitness and Nutrition (POPTFN) was spearheaded five years ago by the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE) Philippines Chapter, Diabetes Philippines and biopharmaceutical company AstraZeneca.
