Korean church minister slain in Pasig
A Korean was killed by still unidentified armed men during a shooting incident in Pasig City early Monday, police said.
Initial reports reaching the Pasig City Police-Station Investigation Detection Management Branch (SIDMB) identified the victim as Cho Tai Hwan, reportedly a minister of the Evangelical Worship Group whose church is based in Cainta, Rizal.
Police said the victim, who was also a member of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Values and Spiritual Counsel Association, died after sustaining two bullets wounds in his left arm pit and arm.
Investigation disclosed that two other Koreans who were with the victim – Kim Young Gun and Kim Young Sik – were also abducted by the armed men but has since been released unharmed.
It was learned that Hwan was driving his color dark-blue Chevrolet van with plate number (XEV-328) along Ortigas Avenue Extension, Sta. Lucia (fronting Ever Gotesco Mall) near the boundary of Cainta, Rizal, when four armed men on board a white van (with no plate number) blocked their path at about 12:35 a.m. Monday.
Reports said the suspects then alighted from their vehicle and then approached the victim's vehicle.
Without hesitation, one of the suspect's shot Hwan and then grabbed Gun and Sik in the process and forcibly boarded them to their vehicle and sped off towards the east direction of Rizal.
A representative from the Korean embassy, identified as Jung Soon Chui, already went to the Pasig City Police station to report that Gun and Sik have already been freed by the suspects.
