QC schools asked to impose strict rules on cutting classes
Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista asked public and private school authorities to impose stricter measures to minimize if not totally prevent students from cutting classes and roaming the streets where they can acquire bad habits and illegal vices.
Bautista made the statement as he ordered the local police and other law enforcement agencies in the city to “to leave no stones unturned’’ in fending off illegal gambling near school campuses and even churches.
In the case of police personnel involved in lawless activities, Bautista warned the “rogue men in uniform’’ to mend their ways or face the possibility of being subjected to grave administrative or criminal charges for their ineptness.
By declaring an all-out war against illegal gambling, Bautista said he will ask the Quezon City Police Department (QCPD) and barangay officials to join hands in eradicating all forms of illegal vices in the city.
QCPD Station 9 chief Senior Superintendent Nicolas Torre has routinely led his men in conducting roving inspections in his turf as deterrent to the illegal number games and other lawlessness.
When he assumed his post almost two months ago Torre immediately embarked on the campaign against illegal gambling and drinking in public places putting behind bar more than 200 suspects since then.
Since the routine surveillance were made regularly, the area under Torre’s jurisdiction had turned peaceful and orderly with a visible drop in the number of homicide, grave physical injuries and robbery cases.
“We cannot have zero crime rate all throughout but I lead by example as I personally roam the streets of my jurisdiction to establish police visibility to minimize criminal incidents. That is the best the local police can do since even the police force of progressive countries cannot totally prevent crimes,’’ Torre added.
