Simplifying a mom’s life with technology
It’s never too late to learn and be techie. I appreciate all those who write in and show some interest in learning more about how technology. Believe me, it CAN simplify your life! Whether you are an avid tech user, or a Blackberry neophyte user, I’m here to listen and see how I can help.
Let’s be honest, there’s something exhilarating about coyly responding to work emails from your hand-held device while attending your kid’s school play or waiting for them to finish tennis or piano lessons. Most women we know have a love/hate relationship with technology. Instinctively, we all know tech can be good. But it takes a lot of time to get up to speed on how it all works. My goal and personal advice is to make you use your tech to your advantage.
Build up a great playlists by finding your fave songs on iTunes. IM your husband in Yahoo Mess or even in Gmail chat and say, “get a loaf of Gardenia wheat bread on the way home.” Videochat with the relatives. Use your Blackberry to the hilt by Twitting your latest milestones, use it to the hilt! Am I making sense? Am I getting the tech advice you asked for across?
Well, I’m no computer programmer or high tech pro, but I admit to 101% certified techno user! Fact is, we’re probably a lot alike: crazy busy moms who have too many commitments and too few hours in the day. Carissa, 38 of Boracay wrote in last week; “I’m a self-employed publicist who promotes media projects.
My days are busy doing media rounds, going to events with my clients but on my “spare” time, I run our local newslette. If not for technology I wouldn’t be able to swing all this. I can’t do without it!”
Well, when we’re not taking care of the kids, chatting on YM, blogging or simply surfing the net we just have to make sure we’re also spending time with our significant “others.” We should make it a point to spend time with our supportive husbands and little kids.
I truly appreciate your posts and hope you keep emailing me to share your own challenges, frustrations, and successes with technology. I just wanna clarify and say that I AM NOT an IT person or a Systems analyst so please, don’t expect me to interpret those error messages coming out of your computer. Time like that, even the tech-savvy-est of mommies should know when it’s time to call for S.O.S from the real pros. Know when you’re licked. But rest assured, I will help every way I can, as much as I could.
