‘Kusina’ food fest slated

BAUANG, La Union — The Kusina Ilokandia 2010, an event showcasing culinary arts, beauties, and tourism industry in the Ilocos Region, has been scheduled from September 16 to 18 this year and it will be held at the San Juan Multi-purpose Center in San Juan, La Union.

Kusina Ilocandia is a joint project of the La Union Hotels, Resorts and Restaurant Association, (LUHRRA) and the La Union Conventions and Visitors Bureau (LUCVB), with the participation of the Department of Tourism (DoT), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), Commission on Higher Education (CHEd), and the La Union Assessors Association.

Catherine Torricer, the project manager, disclosed during the press conference at the Coconut Groove Resort here recently, that this year’s event is a revival of the Kusina Ilokandia which was last held in 2005.

“The revival of this project is intended primarily to reawaken the interest of workers and students in the  culinary arts and tourism,” Torricer said.

The three-day activity includes competition of professional chefs, culinary arts students and search for Mr. and Ms. Kusina Ilokandia.

Local tourism stakeholders are confident that thousands of tourists from different parts of the country are expected to flock to the province during the staging of the said event to witness the numerous Ilocano delicacies that will be presented to the public for appreciation and tasting.
