Stress Management 101

Do you often experience headache and other body pains? Do you lose focus at work and always feel tired and lifeless? Do you easily get irritated even with the simplest things? Maybe you are experiencing stress.

Stress is your body’s way of reacting to the happenings around you. Stress is but normal, but too much of this is bad. It can result in health problems like body pains, heart diseases, digestive problems, sleep problems, depression, weight problems, autoimmune diseases, and skin problems. Because of this, one should know how to manage stress. Here are some of the tips to do just that.

• Avoid stressful situations
• Set realistic goals for yourself
• Exercise regularly
• Get enough sleep
• Eat healthy
• Meditate at home or during breaks at work
• Go on a vacation, even just a short one
• Please your senses:
    o Sights: Look at uplifting and happy photos like that of your loved ones, nature, or a beautiful landscape.
    o Sounds: Listen to soothing music like jazz and acoustic. Best examples would be music of Jack Johnson, Norah Jones, and Enya.
    o Smell: Light aromatherapy candles in your bedroom or office to calm yourself. Best scents would be lavender and vanilla.
    o Taste: Comfort yourself with a warm bowl of tasty soup or a cup of chamomile tea.
    o Touch: A nice massage is one sure way to relax your tense muscles.
