Jam Cortes scored a game-high 19 points and hauled down a season-tying 21 rebounds as Letran routed Arellano University, 72-58, in a victory that kept the Knights’ Final Four bid alive in the 86th NCAA basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.

The Knights broke free from a slim 53-49 lead early in the fourth before seizing a 13-point lead, 69-56, on the way to raising their record to 4-7, just half a game behind their victim and two-and-a-half game behind the fourth-running Mapua.

Cortes’ 11 offensive rebounds from his total was the season’s highest, while his total 21 rebounds matched Mark Sarangay's output which he registered in game recently. Franz Dysam added 17 points while Jaypee Belencion had 14 as Letran bounced back from a stinging 60-63 loss to Mapua last week where it blew a 14-point lead in the last 3:36.

Earlier, College of St. Benilde found a new hero in point guard Luis Singco as the Blazers finally ended their losing skid to the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals, 83-64, in the first game.

Averaging only 2.5 points in 10 games, Singco came off the bench to post a career-high 21 points and five rebounds.

In juniors action, the Letran Squires dumped the Arellano Junior Chiefs, 64-39 while the La Salle-Greenhills clobbered the Emilio Aguinaldo Brigadiers, 81-68.
