3 Canon products win EISA award in Europe
Canon’s three premier products -- the EOS 550D, EOS 7D, and Vixia HF M31 -- were named “best products” by the European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA), a group of 50 magazines from 19 countries that focuses on photography, audio and video products, home theaters, and mobile devices.
The Canon EOS 550D was named European Camera for 2010-2011. Incorporating a “wide range of features contained in a well-designed and easy to use body,” the EISA jury called the Canon EOS 550D an “excellent entry-level camera.”
With the same 18.0-megapixel resolution as the advanced-amateur model EOS 7D, the EOS 550D was praised for its image quality and cost performance, and described as a “well-specified camera packed with features.”
The Canon EOS 7D was the European Advanced SLR Camera for 2010-2011. Featuring 19 cross-type AutoFocus points, extremely high ISO settings, and a burst mode capable of up to eight frames per second, the EISA jury called the Canon EOS 7D the “natural choice when it comes to photographing action and sport.”
Combining Canon’s powerful DIGIC 4 image processor and an 18.0-megapixel CMOS sensor (APS-C size), the EOS 7D was commended for its high-quality still pictures and Full HD 1080p movie-capture capability.
Lastly, the Canon Vixia HF M31 was crowned as European Family Camcorder of 2010-2011. According to the EISA jury, the perfect family camcorder should be easy to operate by users of all ages, and the judges determined that the compact Canon Vixia HF M31 “manages this perfectly,” through its “superb touch-screen and low button count.”
The fully featured HD camcorder offers high-speed Instant AF (Auto Focus) and incorporates Powered IS, optical image stabilization that provides an “unexpected high level of performance.”
In addition to the EISA awards, the EOS 550D and EOS 7D have also been honored by the Technical Image Press Association (TIPA), receiving “Best DSLR Advanced in 2010” and “Best DSLR Expert in 2010” awards, respectively.

Nikon’s D3S wins at the EISA awards London | United Kingdom16-08-2010
Nikon’s D3S professional FX-format D-SLR has won a top award from EISA (European Imaging and Sound Association), claiming the Best European Professional Camera prize. Nikon also came top in the Best European Professional Lens category, which was won by the AF-S NIKKOR 300mm F2.8G ED VR II super-telephoto lens.
Robert Cristina, Manager of Professional Products at Nikon Europe comments: “We are delighted that once again a D3 series camera has won the Best European Professional Camera category at the prestigious EISA awards. Based on feedback from our customers, we have built on the success of the D3X, which won the award last year, adding features to the D3S such as HD-quality D-Movie function and a newly designed FX-format CMOS image sensor.”
Cristina continued: “The AF-S NIKKOR 300mm F2.8G ED VR II follows the ground-breaking AF-S VR NIKKOR 300mm f/2.8G IF-ED. With a new generation of Vibration Reduction technology (VR II) and a new A/M focus mode, it’s an evolution of the NIKKOR lens that we’re really proud of, and demonstrates Nikon’s commitment to designing products that will keep photographers ahead of the game.”
Nikon’s success at the EISA awards follows the recent triumph of the D3S at the TIPA (Technical Image Press Association) awards earlier this year, where it won Best Professional D-SLR, further demonstrating Nikon’s dominance in high-end photography.
Each year, the European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA) nominate the best equipment from different categories of audiovisual products released in Europe during the preceding 12 months. It recognises those products that will be appreciated by an enthusiast and professional audience who want high quality and creative features. The awards are chosen by panels representing over 50 prominent photo, video, audio, home theatre and mobile electronics magazines from up to 20 European countries.
European Professional Camera: the Nikon D3S
The EISA judges said: “The Nikon D3S is so sensitive it can focus and shoot in conditions in which even the human eye cannot see. Although high ISO settings are a feature of most modern D-SLR cameras, the quality of the Nikon D3S high ISO settings is unsurpassed for low noise levels and richness of detail. Together with its extremely fast EXPEED processing, excellent battery life and high-quality construction, this is the perfect D-SLR for professional sports, action and low-light photography.”
European Professional Lens: the NIKON AF-S NIKKOR 300MM F2.8G ED VR II
The EISA judges said: “Nikon’s AF-S NIKKOR 300mm F2.8G ED VR II gives photographers a guarantee of high image quality, even in the most difficult lighting conditions. The fast F2.8 maximum aperture allows photographers to work in a wide variety of situations, offering the ability to shoot with higher shutter speeds and to have smooth backgrounds with attractive bokeh. The lens has three ED glass elements to eliminate chromatic aberration and Nikon's Nano-Crystal Coatings reduce internal reflection. The AF-S NIKKOR is equipped with Nikon’s VR II Image Stabilization system, making it a natural choice for photographers specialising in nature, wildlife and fast-action sports.”
