The Orbis flying eye hospital has touched down once again at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport to give the gift of sight to many needy Filipinos.

The Orbis aircraft is the only flying hospital in the world wherein a team of dedicated eye care professionals and aviators travel from one developing country to another to provide eye surgery and training.

Orbis International is an international non-profit non-governmental organization (NGO) focusing on the prevention of blindness and the treatment of eye diseases in developing countries.

The flying eye hospital is housed inside a specially designed McDonnell Douglas DC-10 tri-jet aircraft.

The aircraft arrived at the NAIA last August 27 and docked at the Aegis Aviation hangar in the Balagbag area of the airport complex. Since its arrival, the aircraft is being reconfigured to accommodate surgical and training operations and will commence with its eye-care program this Wednesday.

While here, the doctors on board will deliver sight-saving surgeries to those suffering with blindness and visual impairments, and will also conduct skills exchange programs with the local ophthalmic community.
