Korea ready to host F1 by October
The organizer of the upcoming 2010 Korean Grand Prix released images of the new facility to assure racing fans that construction of the newest Asian circuit will be ready to host the inaugural race come Oct. 24.
The Korea Auto Valley Operation (KAVO) last Monday, released images of the facility which they are certain will be done in time for F1’s first visit to Korea.
According to the KAVO statement, the circuit is now 90 percent complete and will be fully operational by October.
KAVO announced that an inaugural run will take place at the new Korea International Circuit (KIC) this weekend, Sept. 4, which mark’s the 50-day countdown to the country’s first-ever Formula 1 Grand Prix.
Dubbed as the “Circuit Run 2010,” the event will see Karun Chandhok driving around the new track aboard a Red Bull Racing car.
The event will also showcase a variety of car and motorcycle performances, parades and shows.
The event will serve as a promotion for the forthcoming 2010 Formula 1 Grand Prix and will include the “M Super Concert,” which is a live performance organized by South Korean music channel, M.net.
KAVO is the operating corporation for the Korean Grand Prix. It was established in 2006, when Korea succeeded in securing a round of the F1 championship.
The group was capitalized at 60 billion Korean won, and is responsible for the construction and operation of the Korea International Circuit located in Yeongam, Jeollanam-do.
