The New Grunge

Casual fashion gets a leg up with the launching of Springfield Women at the Greenbelt 3 branch that was previously dedicated solely to men’s wear. Celebrated with a runway show of the brand’s new collection, Springfield was inspired by ‘90s nonchalance, the Fall/Winter Collection featuring light layers and slouchy silhouettes. The Springfield man can project anything from the Ivy League to the rugged outdoors with the hodgepodge of selections available. Likewise, Springfield Woman offers apparel for the feminine grunge rocker to the classically clothed upperclassman.
Stripes and checks run rampant throughout the men’s Free Rider and New Varsity collections, which feature Oxford and rugby shirts, polo shirts, and varsity sweaters and jackets. Paired with the staple khaki and jeans, the look is versatile and easily wearable. A twist in the lineup is the darkly hued Beat Thrill collection with its slim silhouettes and an overall urbanite aesthetic.
The women’s line, on the other hand, pairs the grunge slouch with feminine floral prints for a modern take on the dated trend. Channel the late ‘90s rocker with black leggings paired with dresses and short skirts or acid-washed jeans and a graphic tee as styled for the ‘Nearly 90s collection. Tough blacks, denims, white and grays serve as the ultimate “rebel” backdrop for the laces and bows that pepper the Classic Rebel collection.
The latest collection from Springfield has “toned down a bit this season” says its merchandising manager, Ria Mariano, signified in the relaxed undertones that carry throughout the men’s and women’s lines. Now casual dressing channels the classically cool vibe of the past decade.
