Ms. Imelda Papin, dubbed the Philippine Ambassadress of Goodwill, and Mrs. Dionisia Pacquiao (fondly called “Mommy D”) may do concerts abroad very soon.

Offers have been pouring in for them to perform in concerts in the US, Dubai, Hong Kong, and other parts of the world.

This of course is a very exciting news for their fans who’ve warmly accepted their tandem in the music world when they recorded Mel’s hit song “Bakit” in the US no less.

It is recalled that when Mel (once dubbed the “Sentimental Songstress of Asia” and who was also vice governor of Camarines Sur) learned on TV that Mommy D was a fan and that she wanted to see Mel in person, the latter had Mommy D fetched by a limousine for their momentous meeting over dinner. Mommy D was in Las Vegas then for one of her famous son Manny’s championship fights. Imelda has been based in Las Vegas for quite sometime.

Mommy D was thrilled beyond belief when she finally met her idol and was in tears when Imelda offered her to record the song “Bakit,” initially meant as a souvenir. But upon hearing of the recorded output, the producer of 618 International Entertainment, Inc., decided to include the duet in the album of Ms. Papin.

The song “Bakit,” composed by John Manalili, has brought Imelda Papin to phenomenal heights, setting a trend in the local music industry. In a record time of three months, the song reached Double Platinum, paving the way for numerous hits and 13 movie offers, thus conferring on Ms. Papin the title of “Undisputed Jukebox Queen” for five consecutive years and elevating her to the Hall of Fame.

“Bakit” the concert on Oct. 16, the Philippine music icon and international recording artist and Mommy D will topbill “Bakit the Concert” at the Aliw Theater. They will be joined by an array of guest artists.

The concert, which is for the benefit of the dialysis project of the IAP Foundation, Inc., is under the auspices of the Foundation in cooperation with BuzzworksTrading, E Business and 618 International Entertainment, Inc.

By the way, Mel announces that “Bakit” CDs, distributed by Universal Records, are now available in all record outlets in the country.
