Cebu seeks RORO, RECLA projects
CORDOVA, Cebu – Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia has tasked the Province's Engineer to conduct a survey of the town after Mayor Adelino Sitoy sought assistance from the Capitol on his plan to build a roll-on, roll-off port and a reclamation area here.
Garcia said she welcomes the request of Cordova Mayor Adelino Sitoy because the proposed projects will benefit not only the town of Cordova but the entire province as the port will be used to transport passengers to and from Bohol, Leyte, and Negros Island.
“I found this proposal very welcome. It is a welcome change to have a mayor asking assistance that should also benefit the province,” said Garcia.
Sitoy said aside from the RORO port, they will also need a land to host the economic activity of the port. The RORO port will cater to passengers bound for Bohol, Leyte, and Negros, especially those working at Mactan Export Zone. (Mars W. Mosqueda Jr.)
B.I.R. DISTRICT TOPS TAX TARGET
CEBU CITY (PNA) – The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Cebu City North Revenue District Office has exceeded its target collection for the month of August. Regional District Officer Socorro Lozano said her district exceeded the goal of P512 million by Aug. 26, five days before deadline, with a total collection of P514 million or a surplus of P2 million.
Lozano said the target for August is the biggest goal for the year and the most difficult to achieve. Although the deadline for the filing of the income tax was in April, Lozano explained that with the change of leadership, their goals were increased and all revenue district officers had to work hard.
While she said most are still finding it difficult to meet their targets, she was glad that her district was able to deliver. She credited taxpayers for complying with their duties. She said effective enforcement also contributed to their accomplishment.
POLICE TARGET BIKE SUSPECTS
CEBU CITY (PNA) – The Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 issued marching orders to the provincial police commands of Cebu and Bohol to strengthen their crackdown against crimes carried out by motorcycle-riding suspects.
Senior Supt. Edgardo Ingking, PRO 7 deputy regional director for operations, said Cebu topped in the number of crimes committed by motorcycle-riding criminals, followed by Bohol.
Ingking said Task Force Motorsiklo was revitalized to align with the executive order of Regional Peace and Order Councilor chairperson and Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia creating the inter-agency task force on criminality.
During a recent conference, he said all the provincial and city directors in Central Visayas reported on crimes that were perpetrated by men on motorcycles. Of the four provinces in the region, Cebu and Bohol topped the list.
