Another Pinoy is making waves in the internet as he aims to continue the tradition started by Comedy King Dolphy with his character Facifica Falayfay, and Roderick Paulate with his gay characters. He’s none other than Bekimon, the comedy whiz who has captivated a million YouTube viewers the past two months.

The appeal of Bekimon’s humor rests not only in the use of gay lingo, but on how he brilliantly spoofs the meeting of gay culture and mainstream culture with hilarious results. Not surprisingly, Bekimon, just like Dolphy and Roderick Paulate, is taking his act through the showbiz route.

Bekimon is 24-year-old Bern Josep “Bekimon” Persia, a technical support representative and part-time photographer. He has become a YouTube sensation in just two months after he posted his first Bekimon video.

Nowadays, people recognize him on the street as “Bekimon,” a moniker that has become his screen name.

Bekimon was born and raised in Puerto Galera. He says he wasn’t born into a well-off family and that he used to be very shy as a child. Even at an early age, though, Bekimon realized that his way out of poverty depended on getting a good education.

Bekimon developed his skills for acting, comedy, and performance while at studying at the Centro Escolar University-Manila where he took AB Mass Communication and graduated cum laude. He joined oratorical and declamation contests, theatrical productions.

The first series of Bekimon videos were often shot unrehearsed and recorded by Bekimon’s best friend using a cellular phone. Bekimon realized that he was having more fun doing them and he put more creativity into developing and playing various characters.

Bekimon’s plots are usually about mundane activities made funny by his characters using gay lingo. One of his most popular videos shows Mudak Bekimon, a mother washing the dishes while scolding her “junakis” or anak (child). He even made a State of the Nation Address (SONA) video as the president of the Bekimon Republic.

Bekimon’s unique talent for comedy caught the attention of various TV shows. After making several guest appearances on TV, Bekimon signed up with talent manager Chris Cahilig, who is also the General Manager of Chris Cahilig Consultancy – a PR, advertising, talent services, and viral marketing firm.

Revenge of the bar singer

Ex-Pinoy Idol hopeful Drizzle finally scored her album dream with the release of her independent record that took her four years to finish. Her debut album “Personal” features her version of Soapdish’s hit song “Tensionado” which Love Radio picked for its playlist. That practically ended her struggle as a good talent without enough exposure and who could only live the life of a music bar singer doing cover songs and taking requests from dine-in customers.

“The songs in my album are inspired by things na pinagdaanan ko sa buhay. I wrote one piece called ‘Why’ when I was 16, broken-hearted,” shares the Manila girl whose forgettable days as a singer in a band were filled with almost unbelievably sad memories.

Apart from “Why,” the sweet-smiling singer also penned the track “Mr. Deadma” and co-wrote “Will You Be Mine.” The whole package is distributed by Viva Records and marketed by P3P Events and Promotions.
