A defective crib crushed and killed an eight-month-old baby boy while his mother was sleeping in their rented room in Tondo, Manila last Saturday afternoon.

The head of Baby John Prince Henry was still pinned on his crib when his mother Richelle Henry, 24, of No. 36-B Quezon St., Tondo, Manila found him at around 3:00 p.m., Sunday.

According to Case Officer PO3 Lito Lopez of the Manila Police District Homicide Section, the mother told authorities that she slept at 1 p.m. the other day after leaving her child inside the crib who was also sleeping.

But when she woke up at 3 p.m., Richelle saw her baby sandwiched in the crib.

Lopez believed that the baby boy woke up and pinned down while playing in the crib.

“Meron kasing butas ‘yung crib na pwedeng magkasya ‘yung ulo ng bata at doon siya pumasok,” the investigator added.

The victim was rushed to the Mary Johnston Hospital in Tondo Manila but the child was declared dead at 6 a.m. Monday at the said hospital due to severe head injury.
