Small talk with Rocco and Jolina in Iriga
“StarStruck V” finalist Rocco Nacino and tri-media star Jolina Magdangal took time out of their busy schedule to liven up the celebration of the 42nd Charter Foundation Anniversary of Iriga City in Camarines Sur on Sept. 3.
Bulletin Entertainment was at the event and as such, got updates from the two celebrities:
Regine-Ogie wedding bids well for ‘Party Pilipinas’ co-hosts
Jolina believes there is greater opportunity for the junior co-hosts of “Party Pilipinas” to shine on the show now that Regine Velasquez and Ogie Alcasid are altar bound.
“Binibigyan naman kaming lahat ng chance mag-shine sa show pero ngayon, kahit yung mga di dati na nag-spot number, meron na din, gaya ni Lovi [Poe],” said she of the Sunday variety show.
She thinks this could be in anticipation of the possibility that Regine and Ogie might lie low with their careers after they get hitched.
However, Jolina stressed that the two have not said anything about leaving “Party Pilipinas” altogether. Feeling ko kasi, kahit na ikasal sila, love nila ang singing, eh, kaya di nila magagawang talikuran yon. Siguro magpapahinga lang sila ng ilang buwan pero magtrabaho pa din sila if only because yun na ang nakasanayan na nilang gawin,” said the tri-media star, who came to Iriga with her boyfriend-musician Mark Escueta.
Does she hear wedding bells herself?
“Kami ni Mark? Hindi pa! Bago pa lang naman kami…”
Jolina adds that her family approves of Mark and that they feel more assured of her safety when he is with her.
“Kaya nga lagi kaming magkasama. Minsan naman, ako ang sumasama sa mga gigs niya,” said she.
The tri-media star recently signed a two-year contract with GMA-7. But more than having projects, she wants to have a “partnership” with the network.
“Matagal na din naman ako sa industriya kaya gusto ko naman na may mas malaking participation na ako sa career ko versus tanggap lang ng tanggap ng trabaho. Kung may maganda akong storyline, sasabihin ko sa kanila. Parang ganun.”
Apart from “Party Pilipinas,” Jolina is on the forthcoming drama-fantaserye, “Grazilda.”
Rocco in boxers
The half hour ride from Iriga to the Naga Airport flew fast with Rocco amply filling up dead space with his stories.
Though Rocco readily answered all questions about him, it is his being chosen as one of the 10 celebrity centerfolds of Cosmopolitan magazine that got his eyes sparkling.
“One month ko na ngang pinaghahandaan yan, though hirap ako ng konti kasi limited ang time ko sa pagpunta sa gym. Kaya nga pag may chance, nagwork out talaga ako for two, three hours,” he said.
The “StarStruck” finalist admits that he readily accepted the offer to pose sexy for Cosmopolitan because he’s not the type to back down from challenges---not even one which requires him to be photographed with nothing on but his boxers.
“Okay lang naman ako sa ganyan. Try lang,” said he, who spent half day at Avilon Zoo for the pictorial.
Joining Rocco as Cosmopolitan celebrity centerfold are Sam Milby, Matteo Giudicelli, Carl Guevarra, Tom Rodriguez, Joross Gamboa, Marco Manalac, Bryann Foronda and Fabio Ide.
Rocco will be one of the main attractions at this year’s Cosmo Bachelor Bash to be held at the World Trade Center on Sept. 9.
Winning moments
Jolina and Rocco were in Iriga upon the invitation of city mayor Madelaine Alfelor-Gazmen. The two celebrities, along with Nanette Inventor and Douglas Nierras, spent a whole afternoon judging the DBC/DLC Majorettes competition (elementary and high school division).
Alfelor-Gazmen said that she tirelessly spearheads such competitions because these foster a sense of oneness among his constituents. She added that through the arts, the Iriguenos (especially the youth) get to have a deeper appreciation of beauty, which is brother to such things as cleanliness, orderliness and lawfulness.
This is the reason even the Iriga marketplace is being given a facelift by the city government. Bulletin Entertainment dropped by the site and true enough, it is comparable in design and structure as any cosmopolitan piazzas with a fountain and pocket orchards to boot. The market is set to open by November this year.
