There is going to be no Brendan Fraser in the sequel of the movie “Journey to the Center of the Earth.”

The 2008 movie “Journey” refers to the 19th-century novel of the same name by Jules Verne, and is about Bostonian volcanologist Trevor Anderson (played by Fraser) and nephew Sean’s (played by Josh Hutcherson) adventure in the center of the earth after being trapped in an extinct volcano in Iceland.

Rumor has it that Fraser will not be a part of the 2010 sequel, titled “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island” and which will be directed by Brad Peyton (“Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore”), as “he felt strongly about making the first one specifically with director Eric Brevig.” But according to Star Life Talk and Gossip, it was due to scheduling conflicts that he won’t join the sequel.

Hutcherson will reprise his role in “Journey 2” – which will be based on another sci-fi novel of Verne, “The Mysterious Island” – and will be joined by “The Rock” Dwayne Johnson. Johnson will play as the boyfriend of Hutcherson’s role’s mother.

Reports say that three more new characters will be introduced in the film. “Journey 2’s” story is about Johnson’s character’s finding his long-lost grandfather on a mysterious island, which turns out to be the secret home of Captain Nemo, also of another sci-fi novel of Verne, “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.”

“Journey 2” will start filming in October in Hawaii and is expected to be released in September 2011.
