Proper Care for Contact Lenses
Contact lenses, whether worn for medical or aesthetic reasons, require a lot of care as they are in direct contact with our eyes. Eye doctors and health care professionals can provide information for the proper care of contact lenses.
One of the most common mistakes of first time wearers of contact lenses is to handle their contact lenses with their nails. This is a big no-no! From World Village:
Do not use your nails to handle your contact lenses. Nails may tear the contact lenses and introduce infection directly on them.
As people wearing contact lenses are diverse, they require more specific ways to care for their contact lenses with regard to the kind of lifestyle and habits that they have.
For example, contact lens-wearers who work outdoors or spend a lot of time under the sun may need extra protection for their eyes. From Web MD:
Wearing contact lenses may cause your eyes to become more sensitive to sunlight. Wear sunglasses with total UV protection and/or a wide brim hat when in the sun.
Contact lens users who wear makeup must also take precautions. Again, from Web MD:
Put in your contact lenses before applying makeup to avoid contaminating your contact lens. When removing your makeup be sure that you wash and dry your hands. Once you have done this, remove your contact lenses and then remove your makeup.
The most important thing to keep everything clean and listen to your doctor.
