Does Miss Australia 2010 Jesinta Campbell suspect Miss Philippines Maria Venus Raj among those likely to have “sabotaged” her in this year’s Miss Universe pageant?

The imputation was made in the blog article uploaded on Yahoo titled “Miss Universe contestant claims ‘sabotage’ led to her loss,” which, in turn, referred to an interview that Campbell granted Australia’s Nova 91.9 radio station recently.

According to Campbell, the national dress she wore when she took the stage in Las Vegas late August was laced with “about six pins all pinned in the back of it.” She added that when she put on the dress, the pins scratched “all the back of my back.”

The article described Campbell’s national gown as one “with an aboriginal-print swimsuit, ruffled flamenco skirt and Ugg boots” that “was ridiculed as too costume-y and over-the top…”

And though Campbell did not point a finger at any specific competitor (“it could’ve been anyone,” she said), the article stated “No one has copped to the prank, but from the large pool of international competitor-suspects, Campbell singles out those from Mexico, the Philippines, and Central and South America.”

Note, however, that the writer did not directly quote Miss Australia for the charge.

Bulletin Entertainment tried to contact Raj for comments on the matter but to no avail.

Miss Australia gave a reason candidates might want to sabotage their competitors.

“Winning is so important for those girls because they become queens in their country and are worshipped if they win -- and it changes everything forever for them," she told the Herald Sun.

She, however, maintained, "But there were 82 other girls there and I can't narrow it down, so it's a mystery to me."

Still, there are those whom Campbell categorically said are off the list of suspects.

"But I know who didn't do it -- my best friends were the girls from Ireland, Belgium, Great Britain, and Guam and I know they wouldn't have done that to me," she was quoted as saying.

According to article, Yahoo sought comments on the matter from Miss Universe representative Meagan McCutcheon but she “did not immediately respond.”

Even during the Miss Universe question and answer portion, Campbell was seen as someone who speaks her mind.

Asked by judge Nikki Taylor, "Legislation banning certain kinds of religious clothing has caused controversy around the world. What role should government play in determining such personal preference?"

She replied: "One of the greatest things we have is the freedom of choice...I don't think the government should have any say in what we wear, because we can all make our own personal choices."

Campbell was eventually named Miss Universe Second Runner-Up while Raj copped Fourth Runner-Up.
