2 Explosives Makers Held in Navotas
MANILA, Philippines - Police arrested Friday two fishermen while in the act of making explosives for blast fishing in Navotas City.
The suspects, identified as Deb Cadbuente, 34, and Eric Lozada, 31, both residents of Davila Street, Barangay Navotas West, were nabbed after concerned residents informed authorities of their alleged illegal activities.
Police said the suspects could be involved in illegal fishing which not only affects the environment but also puts the entire fishing community in danger.
It will be recalled that a huge fire occurred two weeks ago in the area which was believed caused by stored gasoline or illegal explosives in the fishing community.
Seized from the suspects were plastic wrapper for blasting caps, 55 pieces of blasting caps and other paraphernalia for making improvised explosives.
