'Singkaban ng Bayan' arc making competition begins in Bulacan

The Province of Bulacan has finally opened the submission of entries for the "Singkaban ng Bayan" arc making competition on Friday, Sept. 8.

The arc making competition is an important component of the Singkaban Festival that provides an entertaining and visually captivating way to celebrate and appreciate cultural diversity, as well as highlight the Sining at Kalinangan ng Bulacan arts and crafts.  

It is also one way of promoting the province's national history and encouraging Bulakenyos to deepen their love for their people, community, and traditions. 

The festival features arcs with designs featuring the local traditions, history, and tourism of the towns and cities in Bulacan. 

⁠Bamboo is the star of the Singakaban Festival. Through the showcase, the competition hopes to also expose young people to the significance of bamboo to the province. 

The arcs will be on display at the Capitol Mini-Forest, Capitol compound, City of Malolos from Sept. 8 to 15. 

Groups of Bulakenyos who are competing in the contest are tasked to create arcs made of bamboo, using sharp bolos for ornaments and crafting unique designs. 

The competition's criteria for judging include Creativity (30 percent); Relevance to the Theme (30 percent); Materials used (20 percent), and Overall Impact (20 percent), totaling a hundred percent.

The first place winner will take home a cash prize of P60,000; the second place with P35,000; and the third place with P25,000. Each of the three runners-up will receive P10,000 and a trophy.
