(ALI VICOY / MANILA BULLETIN) In his message for the All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day commemoration, Duterte expressed desire for everyone to be inspired in upholding the Filipino Christian tradition. “In these days of remembrance, we honor our dearly departed loved ones by praying for the eternal repose of their souls and cherishing fond memories of the time they spent with us. We remember the remarkable lives of our saints who continue to guide us in our daily lives,” he said. “May this year's observance inspire us to strengthen our faith and uphold our traditions as we deepen our bonds as a nation," he added. “Let us dedicate our time, skills and knowledge so we may make a positive and meaningful impact in our society while we pursue meaningful goals for our people and country,” he continued. This year, President Duterte made an early visit to the grave of his parents at the Roman Catholic Cemetery in Davao City Thursday evening because of his scheduled flight to Bangkok, Thailand for the 35th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit and Related Summits. Malacañang had earlier called on the public to take safety precautions when they travel to observe All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day. It was reported that more than 35,000 cops will reportedly be deployed as millions of people are expected to troop to the cemeteries and churches to honor their departed loved ones.
