Antipolo Warns vs Con Artist

ANTIPOLO CITY — The city government here is warning residents in far-flung communities against a con artist claiming to be an emissary of local officials and soliciting membership fees in exchange for 10 kilos of rice and grocery items to be given purportedly by the local government. Rowell Macapagal, newly-appointed executive secretary of the city government told Manila Bulletin that residents should immediately inform the police or barangay officials in their area should they encounter a man identifying himself as “Teddy Constantino,” apparently also a bogus identity. This came as the whole community living in Sitio Kaysakat claimed to have given the man P25 for each household in exchange for the supposed food items from the local government. (Nel B. Andrade)

22 SURVIVE BUS CRASH

KIANGAN, Ifugao — Twenty-two occupants of a Baguio City-bound bus are lucky to have survived with non-life-threatening injuries when the public utility vehicle fell 20 meters down into a ravine in Barangay Huccab, here, last Sunday. Eight of the passengers of a KMS bus unit that originated from Kiangan were still confined in government hospitals as of press time yesterday afternoon. The rest were treated for minor injuries and sent home late Sunday. Investigators said their initial findings point to a failure in the brakes as cause of the accident. (Dexter A. See)

CYANIDE FISHERS FALL IN BATAAN

CAMP TOLENTINO, Bataan — Police authorities reported yesterday the arrest of six persons suspected to be involved in illegal fishing and theft in the province. Senior Superintendent Arnold D. Gunnacao, Bataan police director, lauded Sr. Inspector Marvin C. Pedere, Orion chief of police, for arresting alleged cyanide fishers Alfee Yordan, 27; Ruben Pajes, 26; Romel Pajes, 18 and Mark Anthony Quining, 22, all residents of barangay Capunitan, Orion. In Mariveles town, Supt. Romell Velasco, chief of police, arrested two bike thieves but asked not to have them identified since they are minors. (Mar T. Supnad)

BOCAUE, Bulacan — Reacting to the complaints of concerned parents here, three alleged illegal drug peddlers were arrested in Barangay Tambubong by elements of the Bulacan Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operation Task Force the other day. Senior Supt. Fernando S. Villanueva, Bulacan police director, identified them as Ferdinand Galicia Cruz, 35, of Bocaue; Racille Debas Macapagal, 37, of San Jose del Monte; and Christian Alabe delos Santos, 28,  of Marilao. Guns and an assortment of drugs were allegedly seized from them in a sting operation, he said. (Freddie C.Velez)

ANTI-VICE DRIVE

CAMP GEN. SANTOS, Bulacan — A total of 14 video-karera machines were seized and 11 people involved in the operation of the illegal gambling on video horse-racing arrested as police intensified their anti-vice campaign in the towns of Baliuag, Bocaue, San Miguel and Meycauayan City, over the weekend. Senior Supt. Fernando S. Villanueva, Bulacan police director yesterday that charges of violation of RA 9287 is being prepared against the suspects. Newly-installed Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief, Director General Raul Bacalzo, vowed to implement a one-strike policy against police commanders unable to curb gambling in their respective areas of jurisdiction.
