Pasaol, Lina shine as Gilas 3x3 remains spotless with win over Hong Kong

John Rey Pasaol and Bismarck Lina took turns in powering Gilas Pilipinas to a 21-17 stomping of Hong Kong to keep its record unblemished in the men’s 3x3 basketball tournament in the 19th Asian Games at the Deqing Geographic Information Park Basketball Court on Wednesday, Sept. 27.

Pasaol and Lina had seven points apiece as they connived on a telling 4-0 run after Hong Kong cut the lead down to one, 10-9, creating the much-needed separation before cruising to their first 21-point finish in the tournament.
The Filipinos actually went off to a hot start when they doubled up on Hong Kong’s score, 8-4. The opposition, however, got into some rhythm thanks to their long bombs to close the gap.
That was when Pasaol and Lina took turns in carrying the fight for the Filipinos and quickly established a 14-9 lead.
Hong Kong had some fight in them, cutting down to three but Gilas went on with its stellar run with Pasaol delivering the finishing blow from the foul line and ended the match with still seven seconds left.
Justine Sanchez had four points while John Bryan Sajonia chipped in three.
Gilas goes for a rest day on Thursday, Sept. 28, before facing up against another 3x3 powerhouse Mongolia on Friday, Sept. 29. Should the Filipinos win, it will get an outright spot to the quarterfinals in the knockout stage.
