Fire razes 50 houses in Zamboanga City

ZAMBOANGA CITY – A man was injured in a fire that razed 50 houses in Barangay Baliwasan here on Thursday, October 19.

Investigation showed that the fire started before 11 a.m. in the two-story home of a 68-year-old widow.

She and her granddaughter were on the ground floor when their neighbors called their attention to smoke coming out of their second floor window.

Flames quickly spread from the house to adjacent homes.

The man reportedly experienced seizures as a result of the incident. He was given first aid by first responders.

The City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office deployed water tankers and ambulances.

Arson investigators are still probing the origin of the blaze.
