Virtual training for teachers, school break for students start on March 15
The week-long virtual In-Service Training (INSET) training for school teachers and the semestral break for students in public schools officially started on Monday, March 15.

Based on the amended school calendar and activities for School Year (SY) 2020-2021 issued by Education Secretary Leonor Briones on March 2, the INSET for teachers is scheduled March 15 to 19.
With teachers are attending virtual trainings, students in public schools who were able to complete their academic requirements for the 2nd Quarter of School Year (SY) 2020-2021 will be enjoining their sembreak.
Due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) situation in the country, DepEd decided to a hold virtual INSET for public school teachers for the first time this school year.
DepEd Undersecretary Alain Pascua, in a memorandum issued on March 4 said that the five-day session aims to “further expand the participants' skills and knowledge on different digital teaching materials, systems and approaches that are useful in delivering quality instruction.”
Teachers, he added, are also expected to attend a professional development program organized by the school or other relevant units of DepEd during the scheduled INSET.
DepEd’s Information and Communications Technology Service Educational Technology Unit (ICTS - EdTech) will conduct the said virtual INSET for teachers.
It is streamed streamed live through the Official YouTube Channel of the DepEd EdTech Unit at www.youtube.com/c/educationaltechnologyunit Prior to the sembreak, students who were having difficulties completing their school requirements underwent intervention and remediation activities from March 1 to 12.
DepEd said that schools were expected to conduct “intervention and remediation activities” based on the unique needs of the learners as determined through the results of the different forms of assessment administered for the past two quarters.
These intervention and remediation activities, DepEd added, should have been indicated in the two-week home learning plan to be prepared by teachers with the assistance of the assigned learning support aides (LSAs), as applicable.
Students who were still unable to complete the requirements in specific subjects during the last two weeks are expected to finish these during this period.
Other adjustments in school calendar include the schedule for Quarter 3 which will start on March 22 to May 15, 2021 and the Quarter 4 schedule to start on May 17 to July 10, 2021.
