Week-long mourning period declared in San Juan for late Vice Mayor Villa
San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora declared a week-long city-wide mourning period to honor the late Vice Mayor Warren Villa, who died on Sunday night, June 18.
Zamora issued Executive Order No. 151, Series of 2023, indicating that the mourning period will be from Monday, June 19, to Sunday, June 25.
All official events and activities scheduled on these days are cancelled in order to give citizens and government employees time to pay their respects to Villa.
In addition, all the Philippine flags in the city will be flown at half-mast for three days, pursuant to Republic Act No. 8491 or the "Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines."
The EO notes the mourning period as a way for the city to grieve the passing of Villa "whose commitment to public service, tireless efforts, and unwavering dedication to the City of San Juan have left an indelible mark on our community."

Tribute to Vice Mayor Warren
All local government employees and members of affiliated government agencies gathered at the city hall for the weekly flag-raising ceremony to pay tribute to Vice Mayor Villa. Zamora recalled receiving a text message at around 12 noon on June 18, saying Villa was not feeling well and was unable to attend the scheduled Mayor's Cup 2023 Basketball Tournament. By 6 p.m. Zamora received another message stating Villa was confined at the Cardinal Santos Medical Center. The mayor said he coordinated with the hospital management to know about the status of Villa and personally appeared at the hospital to monitor the vice mayor's condition. "Nahawakan ko agad ang kamay [ni vice] at nagpaalam sa kanya (I held his hand and said goodbye to him)," Zamora said. The mayor thanked Villa for his life-long service to San Juan and its citizens, highlighting Villa's good governance as the city's vice mayor and former councilor. "After all your service that you dedicated to our city, there will always just be one vice mayor Warren Villa," Zamora added.READ MORE:
