Public school teacher in Cotabato nabbed for harming pupil

By Malu Manar KIDAPAWAN CITY – Authorities arrested on Wednesday a 38-year old public school teacher in M’lang, Cotabato who was charged for violating the anti-child abuse act. Gerlie Lumbay Villagonzalo, an elementary school teacher in Barangay Calunasan, M’lang, was accused of harming physically one of her students in June this year. According to one of the apprehending officers from M’lang PNP, Villagonzalo smacked the pupil with her hand. Such act, according to the complainants, resulted in physical injuries. The warrant for her arrest was issued by Judge Jose Tabosares of the Regional Trial Court based in Kabacan, North Cotabato. The M’lang PNP said the teacher did not resist arrest when they accosted and brought her to the police station. The teacher was turned over to the court for proper disposition, the next day. Her counsel, according to reports, filed a motion to post bail.
