'Tarima' Cries for Decent Theaters, Playdate
The indie movie “Tarima,” though it has received rave reviews from its special screenings and press previews is still to find decent theaters to show it during a good playdate.
Fanny Serrano, fashion/beauty icon and lead actor of Blue Gold Productions initial offering, “Tarima” recently poured his frustrations on the manner his indie movie has been getting “shabby” treatment from bookers.
“I’m saddened in learning some realities in booking and marketing the so-called indie movies.
“Honestly, to this date, I have yet to know ‘Tarima’s’ theaters and playdate, that sometimes I get the feeling that it will go straight to video.
“It’s really heart-breaking that this is what I get for going indie. What consoles me now is I found an advocacy worth fighting for especially in this case where a project I worked hard for is at stake.
“I can proudly shout to the whole world that we did a movie worth fighting for.”
But Fanny says he’s not completely blaming the theater bookers and owners for the present predicament “Tarima” is experiencing.
“In fairness, I can’t argue with the theater owners who have low regard for some local indie movies. Most of them are nothing but cheap sex and indulgent, pretentious movies. They watch movies to be entertained, not tortured by incomprehensible filmmaking.
“I have tried watching a number of indie movies which I never finished coz I find them a waste of time and an insult to my senses. I might not have had sophisticated schooling, but my years of working experience in the business have given me basic artistic sense.
“But, I’ve also seen lots of indie movies that are masterfully crafted and put mainstream films to shame and deserve the dumpsite more than the cinemas that they are shown in.”
Praises for ‘Tarima’
Director-Producer Manny Valera said: “Fanny Serrano is at his acting best. It’s an endearing love story between Fanny and Rocky Salumbides.”
Charo Santos, actress/ABS-CBN President: “Congratulations, Fanny Serrano, on this most important project ‘Tarima.’ I must say your performance is great. You came a long way since our ‘Maalaala Mo Kaya’ days and I’m proud of you!”
Lorna Tolentino: “Congratulations, TF! Maganda ang ‘Tarima’! Siyempre, magaling ka at si Tita Gloria Romero! Good luck for its future international screenings!”

Selina Sevilla out to prove she’s one ‘Hot Mama’
Remember the controversial Selina Sevilla, the singer who got her butts infected when she underwent a surgical procedure and who Dr. Manny Calayan got under his wings and remedied her situation?
Well, the singer who made the titillating hit song “Nilunok Ko Ang Lahat,” is out to prove she is one “Hot Mama” when she goes onstage on Oct. 9 at the Metrobar West Ave., Quezon City.
Backroom, Inc. is line producing the comeback concert of this sexy singer.
The concert is dubbed “Hot Mama... Like a Virgin.”
Why “Hot Mama”?
“Hot mama, meaning to say, kahit ganito na ‘yung edad ko, I have three kids, hot pa rin daw ako.’’
What do we expect from you?
“Mayroon akong gagawing ’80s, Madonna then, back-to-back with Lady Gaga. Aawitin ko pa rin ‘yung pinasikat na mga kanta ni Sharon Cuneta at siyempre, kaya nga guest ko diyan si Tatay Romy San Mateo, ang pianista namin noon sa Calesa Bar, kaya expected nila akong kakanta ng standard songs, classical at saka Latin kasi I came from Sabor Latino Band, diyan ako nag-start.”
“Hot Mama... Like A Virgin!” will have Aljur Abrenica and Erik Santos as special guest artists. Leo Martinez will inject green jokes for the funny side of the show while Dr. Manny Calayan of Calayan Surgicenter and Joel Cruz of Aficionado Perfume will render their contest pieces from “Celebrity Duets.”
