Charice Talks About ‘Botox’ Issue on People Mag Feat

MANILA, Philippines - For the first time, Filipina international singer Charice talked about the much-debated issue of the Botox and thermage procedures she had last July.
In a one-and-a-half-page spread feature on popular U.S. magazine People in its Oct. 4 issue, Charice clarified—as what her publicists previously said—that she did not undergo the procedure for vanity purposes.
“I got it for jaw pain, not for wrinkles—I don’t have any,” the young pop singer maintained.
Asked if she was surprised at the “backlash,” Charice said:
“It was so ridiculous. You can check pictures of me before and after; I’m still the same. I’m never going to change my face. God gave it to me, and I’m proud of it.”
Apart from what could well be the biggest controversy she was beset with as an international star (so far), Charice also shared her thoughts on being cast on the second season of “Glee,” dreaming of becoming a “singing lawyer,” and boys and dating.
Charice, albeit already in the legal age of 18, said she is not yet ready to go out with someone.
“I’m happy being a kid. Oprah told me, ‘Boyfriends can wait. Being a kid is once in a lifetime’,” she said.
But just like any normal teenager, Charice has her own list of gush-worthy guys—whose names, coincidentally, all begin with the letter j.
“Justin Timberlake. Josh Groban. Jake Gyllenhaal. When I met Justin, I thought I was going to faint. He was like, ‘Charice, you’re so great!’ But Jessica Biel (Justin’s girlfriend) was there, so I was like, ‘This is not my night…’”
Should she be ready to date, Charice said her main requirement for a guy is a good sense of humor. “Because I’m funny. Well, that’s what my friends tell me,” she quipped.
Having stayed in the US intermittently, Charice also has observations about the difference between Filipino guys and American guys.
“Boys in America are more mature; 13-year-old boys here [U.S.] have girlfriends! But Filipino boys are so romantic. They give roses and chocolates. In high school six guys sang a Korean song I couldn’t understand in front of my house. It was so cute,” she told People.
Prior to Charice’s feature in People, Newsweek, USA Today and Billboard (as part of the “21 Under 21: Music’s Hottest Minors”—ranking at number four) also placed the spotlight on the Filipina pride in their respective stories.
And last Sept. 28, another renowned publication, Wall Street Journal, featured Charice in its “Speakeasy” blog.
There, the “Pyramid” singer intimated that she might appear next on the fourth or fifth episode of “Glee.”
But more than being pitted against Lea Michele’s character, Rachel Berry, is there a possibility for Charice’s character, Sunshine Corazon, to find love in McKinley High?
Should such twist be employed on her story, Charice said she would want to be paired with the wheelchair-bound Artie (Kevin McHale), who, coincidentally, has recently split with Tina (Jenna Ushkowitz).
“Sunshine’s character is a bit nerdy, so I think they would be cute together,” she said.
Charice’s Q&A on Wall Street Journal also included her “Glee” song wishlist (any song from Michael Jackson and Christina Aguilera), being compared with fellow international singer-actress Lea Salonga (“She’s a professional and I’m just starting out”) and her dream guest on the show (Justin Timberlake).
Her newfound success on “Glee” continues with her recent feat of having beat Beyonce’s debut of “Listen” on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart. Charice’s rendition of the “Dreamgirls”’ theme song, which she performed for her audition in the glee club, debuted at number 38. Beyonce’s version, meanwhile, charted at number 61 when it was released back in 2007.
Her other “Glee” duet with Lea, Lady Gaga and Beyonce’s “Telephone,” landed at number 23, while the original made its debut at the third position.
And her achievements do not stop there. Just last Oct. 1, Charice happily tweeted that her international debut album has reached gold status in one of the Philippines’ neighboring countries, Japan.
“Chyeaa! My Album "Charice" is now certified GOLD in Japan! Thank you so much for the support!!! Japan, thank you so much :)” she posted.
