CEBU CITY -- A businessman who was also a former asset of the National Bureau Investigation (NBI) was gunned down in a busy street here on Monday afternoon, Jan. 30.
Police identified the fatality as Joseph Canonego, 58, a resident of Barangay Mambaling here.
According to Staff Sgt. Kitz Daryl Palaña of Carbon Police Station, the victim owned a pawn shop located in a mall in the downtown area where he came from prior to the attack.
The victim was waylaid while driving a motorcycle on his way home, police said.
Police said the victim stopped for traffic on the corner of Colon and Panganiban Streets when he was shot in the head by the motorcycle-riding gunman.
Police said it was possible that the assailant had been tailing the victim from the mall until he left for home.
A .45 caliber pistol and two magazines were among the belongings the police recovered from the victim.
