169 fire victims receive aid from Manila LGU

A total of 169 fire victims in the City of Manila received financial assistance from the city government on Thursday, Nov. 9.

The distribution was led by Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan, Vice Mayor John Marvin "Yul Servo" Nieto, and Manila Department of Social Welfare Officer-in-Charge Re Fugoso at Bulwagang Villegas in Manila City Hall.
 
The beneficiaries were the fire victims of the 22 residential fire incidents that were recorded in the city from Sept. 12 to Nov. 6.
 
According to the city government, 166 affected families received P10,000 each, while three unattached individuals received P3,000 per person.
 
Servo said he knows how hard it is to become a victim of fire having personally experienced it himself before.
 
"Ang importante, nandito tayo at pwede pang lumaban. Basta habang binibigyan tayo ng panginoon ng buhay, laging may pag-asa, at kung ano man yung nawala sa atin ay maibabalik natin basta sa pagsusumikap natin at sa pagpupursige natin na makabangon muli (The important thing is, we are here and we are still fighting. As long as the Lord gives us life, there is always hope, and whatever we lost we can get back as long as we work hard and persevere to get back up again)," he said.
 
Meanwhile, Lacuna-Pangan assured the residents that the city government is doing its best to meet all the needs of its people.
 
"Kaya sa amin pong munting paraan ay makapagbigay man lang po kami ng tulong pinansyal sa bawat isang nasunugan. Hindi ho talaga biro ang nasusunugan, pero salamat sa diyos na kahit tayo ay nasunugan tayo po lahat ay nandirito (So in our little way we can at least provide financial assistance to each one of you who are victims of fire incidents. It is not really a joke to be in this situation, but thank God that even though we had experienced it, we are all still here)," she said.
 
"Kaya naman po pagdamutan ninyo ang munting nakayanan ng inyong pamahalaan. Lahat naman po ay ginagawa namin para kahit papaano matulungan namin kayong makapag-simula muli (This is a little help that your government has managed to give. We are doing everything to somehow help everyone to start all over again)," she added.
