MANILA, Philippines – Long running FM rock station DWNU 107.5 is reportedly signing off the air on November 7, 2010.

While the music industry rumor mill has been rife with news that the 23-year old rock station will close its doors by the end of year, former station employees still in-the-know have hinted that NU 107.5 will air its last broadcast on the said date.

If so, the station closes a month earlier than first rumored. Bulletin Entertainment previously reported that the “Home Of New Rock” will close shop in the next three months.

And if the new rumors prove right, November 7, 2010 will see the end of 23 years of DWNU 107.5's rock-oriented music programming. “N-U” first aired in 1987.

The music industry--from record labels, to artists and musicians--has expressed sadness over developments regarding the station. Mally Paraguya, bassist for the funk-rock group P.O.T. and an NU 107 rock award recipient said, “It’s sad that the next generation of rock (musicians) will no longer have this platform to put out their music.”

Known as the “Home of New Rock,” the station has been a staunch supporter of Pinoy rock and even dedicates a weekly one-hour long program, “In The Raw,” to up-and-coming rock and alternative bands. Over the years the station has launched a number of bands that have made a career in playing rock music.

Though no formal announcements have been made by the station, nor any official statements issued, the purported last airing day would certainly be special to the followers of the station... one that will see past and present DJ’s or ‘rock jocks’ taking charge of the mics up until they close.

Moreover, despite news of closing shop, the station will still push through with the annual NU Rock Awards this 29th of October at the NBC Tent at The Fort. The Rock Awards tickets cannot be bought (and conversely, are not for sale). The station gave them away to listeners who logged on to their site joined live contests or were lucky enough to win through daily draws.

This year's Rock Awards features performances from Urbandub, Slapshock, Greyhuondz, Rivermaya, Sugarfree, Franco and Bamboo, among others.
