40 Badjao Boys Enter Manhood
TAGBILARAN CITY (PIA) — Local Police oversaw the initiation of Badjao boys to men. Children, specifically boys of the Badjao community in Totolan Dauis, this city, turned to men in a day on October 28 following manhood initiations by the Camp Dagohoy police.
It was bloody sometimes, but no hazing, mauling or paddles were used and obviously the boys had something to thank the policemen from the Bohol Provincial Police Office, for culture and tribal tradition notwithstanding, the servants and protectors of communities went a mile further in their mission to make men out of the community's boys.
By giving out the cultural initiation of circumcision, around 40 boys went through the rite of passage into adulthood, a police free service as culmination activity for the 18th National Children's month celebration.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) based in Camp Dagohoy here led by Sr. Supt. Constantino Barot had earlier lined up fitting activities focusing on strengthening police community relations as a proactive step in crime-busting.
In Totolan, where fledging community of sea gypsies is found, the boy beneficiaries of the “Operation Tuli” had their first day as men, when they stepped into the world of manhood.
