Calabarzon spared from Typhoon Karding's onslaught

CAMP BGEN. VICENTE LIM, Laguna – Save for an elderly man who died after being caught by a landslide in Quezon, the entire Calabarzon region was spared from the onslaught of Typhoon ‘Karding,’ top police official here said.

The region is composed of Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon, where one casualty who was a victim of landslide was reported.

Around 9:45 a.m. on Sept. 26, 2022, when the body of Eli Senar Alberto, 70, resident of Sitio Subok, Brgy. Aluyon, in Burdeos town was recovered through the concerted effort of the barangay officials, the Burdeos Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection, and the Municipal Disaster Risk Management Office.

Brigadier General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. declared a heightened alert status in the entire region in adherence to the directive of Philippine National Police Chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr.

All police units coordinated with the LGU's and other concerned agencies for a concerted disaster preparedness and operation with the end in view of ensuring public safety particularly in the areas along the path of ‘Karding.’ Nartatez reported the deployment of 283 Search Rescue Retrieval (SRR), while 21 Regional Standby Support Force (RSSF), 1,105 SRR and 615 RSSF were on standby.

"I ordered the police force of this region to ensure the safe and orderly pre-emptive evacuation of all the affected citizens within their area of responsibility," said Nartatez.

As of Tuesday, Sept. 27, about 23,752 individuals have remained in 243 evacuation centers. PNP personnel numbering to about 524 were deployed in these evacuation centers while 308 police were deployed in vacated and evacuated areas.

There were also six relief operations conducted, three rescue operations, and 925 individuals rescued by the PNP.

Continuous monitoring and coordination are still being conducted by the authorities to ensure safety and security of the affected areas.

Local police units in the affected areas have also conducted road clearing operations to augment the efforts of their local government, Nartatez said.

“Nagpapasalamat ako dahil sa aksyon at mabilis na response ng ating kapulisan ay mayroon lang tayong naitalang one casualty ngayong bagyong Karding,” said Nartatez.

“Nawa ay patuloy tayong maging alerto at sa mga ganitong pagkakataon ay huwag po kayong magdadalawang isip na lumapit sa iyong kapulisan upang humingi ng tulong,” added Nartatez.
