Saving Agno River Project
PANGASINAN, Philippines — The province of Pangasinan is still hoping that the multi-billion Agno and Allied River Urgent Rehabilitation Project sees completion even with the pulling out of one of its benefactors from Phase III of the project.
Board Member Ranjit Ramos Shahani (6th District) said the Sangguniang Panlalawigan discussed the other day the report of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) that the Japanese International Coorperation Agency (JICA), which helped in Phases I and II of the project, had allegedly lost interest in completing Phase III.
JICA, according to Shahani, lost interest in the project due to several revisions made on the plan that resulted in the delay of the project’s completion.
The Provincial Board is now hopeful that other foreign parties may be interested to bankroll Phase III of the project so that it would not completely go to waste. (Liezle Basa Iñigo)
