“24 Oras” anchors Mike Enriquez and Mel Tiangco are definitely two of the most awarded and most credible broadcast journalists in the Philippines and 2010 has so far been a banner year for their show. Named early in the year by the Asian edition of Reader’s Digest as one of the Top 15 most trusted Filipinos based on a nationwide survey, Mike and Mel continue to earn more awards and accolades as they remain true to the tenets of “Serbisyong Totoo.”

Mel Tiangco – who is also GMA Kapuso Foundation’s EVP and COO – was earlier awarded by the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Philippines with a Communication Excellence in Organization or CEO Excel Award for Excellence in Corporate Foundation for using effective communication strategies while at the forefront of various special projects and sustainable programs for the underprivileged. She was also honored as one of the “Women of Substance” by People Asia last September.

And just recently, Mel became COMGUILD’s first ever Hall of Fame Awardee for winning COMGUILD’S “Most Outstanding News Presenter” award three times in the past years. Organized by the COMGUILD Center for Journalism, the panel of judges for the COMGUILD Awards is composed of college deans, as well as chairs of Mass Communication departments, from different universities in the country.

As for Mike, his brand of public service goes beyond the newsroom via the public affairs program “Imbestigador,” which recently celebrated its 10th anniversary, and his radio program “Saksi sa Dobol B.”

“Imbestigador,” widely regarded as the most credible investigative program in the country, took investigative reporting to the next level by providing tangible and immediate solutions to victims of injustices, mostly ordinary Filipinos who have lost hope.

On radio, Mike – who is GMA Network’s Senior Vice-President for Radio – continues to host “Saksi sa Dobol B,” the widely popular morning radio program on DZBB, which airs 6 to 10 a.m. from Monday to Friday, and features a one-hour newscast that is broadcast nationwide.

One of the pillars of GMA News and Public Affairs and recipient of the Best News Presenter at the Asian Television Awards in Singapore, Mike just this month received an award for Best Television Host from the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC).

For his work in the field of Radio and TV Broadcasting, Mike was also recently given an award by the Rotary International District 3780 for his “significant contributions in public service, business, professions, and social and economic development that benefit the nation and communities.” One of People Asia’s “People of the Year” Mike – who as a boy, thought of becoming a priest – sees being a broadcast journalist as a vocation.
