Transdermal magnesium treatment
MANILA, Philippines – Last August 7, 2010, I wrote in this column an article entitled “The Magnesium Story.” Since then, I have been receiving a lot of queries about the so-called Transdermal (or topical) magnesium treatment, which means applying magnesium through the skin (spray-type) without passing through the gastrointestinal tract – as contrasted with taking magnesium orally or by mouth. Magnesium taken orally is not absorbed very well. Also, taking magnesium by mouth sometimes causes diarrhea and other gastro-intestinal irritations. Transdermal magnesium treatment is not only easy to apply but results in rapid absorption of magnesium into the body cells.
Magnesium is an essential nutrient in our human bodies. Today, there is a great need to take magnesium supplements because more and more people are having dietary magnesium deficiency caused by our continuous intake of processed foods rich in fat and sugar. Also, some medications deplete our magnesium levels in our human bodies like painkillers, antibiotics and diuretics, some asthma medications, anti-cancer drugs, estrogen and corticosteroids. Not to mention other causes of deficiency of magnesium like aging, stressful experiences, and even illness.
Among the food sources that increases our magnesium levels are green leafy vegetables, cereals, nuts, apples, and seafoods. But more often than not, we are not taking enough of foods in our daily diets – thus the need for magnesium supplements.
One may ask: What are some symptoms of magnesium deficiency? In the internet (http://www.buzzle.com/articles/symptoms-of-low-magnesium.html), we find the following symptoms: “Difficulty in swallowing, constipation, urinary spasms, menstrual cramps, chest tightness, neck pain, jaw joint dysfunction and breast tenderness. Magnesium deficiency primarily affects the nervous system.
This causes insomnia, anxiety, hyperactivity, restlessness, panic attacks, premenstrual irritability, and numbness.
“Low levels of magnesium also affect the heart. Palpitations, heart arrhythmias, high blood pressure and mitral valve prolapse are common magnesium deficiency symptoms. Persons suffering from magnesium deficiency often experience desperate urge to eat chocolates.”
I have been using transdermal (through the skin using a spray bottle) for five (5) months now. The effect on my well-being is fantastic. I have been energized and the cramps in my legs that I used to have now and then have disappeared. I used the Ancient Minerals Magnesium Oil which is promoted in the Internet as the original and most popular magnesium oil. Magnesium oil is actually a highly concentrated solution of magnesium chloride in water. From the Internet (http://www.ancient-minerals.com/products/magnesium-oil/), we get this additional information:
“This magnesium oil utilizes only Genuine Zechstein magnesium chloride, the purest and most pristine source of natural magnesium chloride in the world, extracted in a preserved state from an ancient time millions of years prior to our modern age. There are no added ingredients except those found naturally occurring in the deep underground deposits of this pristine source.”
