Iloilo City — The family of the slain Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) Angelo Claveria is reiterating the call for justice after his skeletal remains arrived in his hometown of Cabatuan in Iloilo province from South Korea Sunday.

“Ang gusto lang namon hustisya. Nakilala naman sang mga Koreano ang suspetsado. (What we want is justice. The Korean authorities have identified the suspect),” Jeanette Claveria-Gallego, Angelo’s younger sister, told Manila Bulletin in a phone interview.
To recall, the 34-year-old Angelo’s skeletal remains were found hidden inside a water purifier tank in Hwaseong City, Gyeonggi province last April. His remains were positively identified after Korean authorities took DNA samples from his mother Angelita in Iloilo and the results matched.
Based on Korean investigation, it was a fellow OFW who killed and dumped Angelo’s body inside the water tank. But the 36-year-old male Filipino suspect is no longer in Korea, but back here in the country.
“Tani ma aresto na siya. O kon may konsensiya siya, mag surrender nalang siya (He should be arrested. Or if he has a conscience, he should surrender),” Jeanette lamented in the local dialect of Hiligaynon.
Mayette, another of Angelo’s sister, told Manila Bulletin, said they appreciate the initiative of Special Assistant to the President (SAP) Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go, who expedited the repatriation of the skeletal remains.
During his visit, Go told the Claveria family that Angelo’s death will be tackled during the June 3 official visit of President Rodrigo Duterte to South Korea.
Go also turned over financial assistance to the family. It included the P220,000 from Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE). Go also gave an additional P20,000 from his office.
Angelo is the second high-profiled Ilonggo OFW who was killed abroad. The death of Joanna Defamelis from Sara town triggered President Duterte to ban deployment of OFWs to Kuwait earlier this year.
