Palawan State U agrees to provide education programs to PDLs in IPPF

The Palawan State University (PSU) in Puerto Princesa City has agreed to provide education programs to inmates of the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (IPPF) in the province, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said.

BuCor said that under the memorandum of agreement (MOA) between IPPF and PSU, the university will provide an extension program for “Literacy and Numeracy Education, Disaster Risk Reduction Management Education, Health, and Wellness and Physical Fitness Program” for persons deprived of liberty (PDLs).

It said the program is designed “to improve the knowledge and skills of the participating PDLs while undergoing reformation.”

The MOA was signed last Jan. 5 by IPPF Superintendent C/CInsp. Gary A. Garcia and PSU President Dr. Ramon M. Docto.

Under the agreement, BuCor said the PSU’s College of Teacher Education (CTE) will be conducting literacy and numeracy education and wellness and physical fitness program, while the university’s College of Nursing and Health Sciences (CNHS) will provide expertise in healthcare services.

On the other hand, PSU’s College of Criminal Justice Education (CCJE) will educate PDLs on disaster risk reduction management.
