Imelda Papin mounts 'One Special Celebration' at Acquatica
Ms. Imelda Papin, Philippine music icon and international recording artist, is set to change the landscape of show presentation in the country as she mounts the much-awaited “One Special Celebration” on Nov. 26 at the Acquatica, complete with holographic images and lighted dancing fountains as backdrop.
Acquatica is located at Hotel H2O, the first ionized hotel in the country located at the Manila Ocean Park Complex behind the Quirino Grandstand. The good news is that negative ions are believed to produce biochemical reactions that increase levels of the mood chemical serotonin, helping to alleviate depression, relieve stress, boost our daytime energy and promote anti-aging qualities.
Dazzling the stage together with the entertainment legend is a long list of notable names in the entertainment industry such as German Moreno, Andrew E, Ernie Garcia, Amay B., Daiana Menezes, Aisaku, Garry Cruz, Aileen Papin, Jessica Arcilla, Ed “Elvis Presley” Lombardo, Musikero, Rey Carpio, Manny Pac and the Philippine Madrigal Siblings. Featured artist is celebrity mom Dionisia Pacquiao who will show off her singing and dancing prowess.
The fund-raising concert by the IAP Foundation Inc. & 618 International Entertainment, Inc. in cooperation with Manila Ocean Park and Hotel H20 is for the benefit of the free dialysis treatment for the poor. Co-presentors are Grand Monaco, QTV11, Erase Placenta, Friendster, Ginebra San Miguel, E Business & Buzzworks. Other presentors are Reyes Haircutters, Masuki, Ryuma Restaurant, Red Coconut Beach Hotel, Manila Forwarder, Mr. Hardinero and Planet Shakers. Media partners are Greenroom.com.ph, Philippine Courier, DZRH, DZBB Super Radio, and Variety News Magazine.
Everyone is encouraged to bring their family as kids would have a fun time watching the show with its colorful and amazing effects. Show watchers will also be given discounts upon their return to the Manila Ocean Park at the Acquatica and Oceanarium sections.
In the meantime, a cut from the “Bakit” album under 618 International Records entitled “Every Night, Everyday” can be heard on Energy FM 91.5 and Star FM 102.7, which has yielded quite a number of requests.
Imelda will also be given a Walk of Fame award on Dec. 1 in recognition of her valuable contributions to the music and entertainment industry. Then, she will fly to Las Vegas for her show at the Orleans Hotel on Dec. 26 with the Cascades and Ron Dante of the Archies, plus special guests daughter Marie France and sister Gloria Papin.
Furthermore, the Music Queen will have a tour of key cities in Canada (Vancouver, Toronto, Edmonton, Saskatoon) on Feb. 12, 18, 19, 24 and 25.
Tickets are available at Ticketnet, Manila Ocean Park and the IAP Foundation office.

The visual poems of Doc Pen Pen
He has written about 300 poems ever since he was in high school but it was only a few years ago that Doc Pen Pen (Dr. Epitacio Tongohan, Jr. in real life, who celebrated his birth anniversary last Nov. 19) was being recognized for his literary talent. He now considers his creative works as “visual poems.” These are poems with graphics, something that he pioneered in, along with the so-called “video-tulaan” and “commentulaan.”
So passionate with poetry, Doc Pen Pen has even initiated a contest dubbed as “I Inspire the World,” a poetry contest with three separate challenges or themes. He was amazed by the overwhelming response to the contest by people all over the world. The winner will receive P50,000. The entries will be judged by reader, commentors and viewers online. For more information about this contest and personal testimonies for Doc Pen Pen’s works, his Facebook account is @PenPen B. Takipsilim.
Doc Pen Pen, who is a pathologist by profession, and a businessman too, is also a filmmaker. His first indie movie “Takipsilim” was released in 2006 and even noted director Celso Ad Castillo was raving about it, we were told. The movie was shown in barangay theaters and in public schools, for free.
For “Takipsilim,” Doc Pen Pen received a FAMAS citation for outstanding work by a new filmmaker. He will also launch his book “PenPen B. Takipsilim” very soon.
