Missing woman found dead at vacant lot in Caloocan; victim's boyfriend arrested
A woman who was reported missing for four days was found dead at a vacant lot in Queensville Subdivision, Barangay 171, Caloocan City on Thursday, June 15.
Col. Ruben Lacuesta, chief of Caloocan City Police Station (CCPS), identified the victim as Arjean Cabangunay, 21.
Police said the victim's boyfriend identified as Jeffrey Montales, 21, was arrested after he admitted killing his girlfriend.
Probers learned by the victim went to the house the suspect at around 1:30 p.m. on June 11.
However, the victim did not return home, prompting her parents to report her missing at the Quezon City Police District Talipapa Police Station (PS 3) at 10:30 a.m. on June 15.
The police advised the parents to coordinate with officials of Barangay 171, Caloocan City.
The victim's parents together with the personnel of Barangay 171, Caloocan City, went to the residence of the suspect and they found out that the victim was not with him.
Police said Montales' sister admitted that the suspect confessed to her that he killed his girlfriend and buried her body at Queensville Subdivision in Brgy. 171.
Personnel of QCPD Station 3 led by Lt. Col. Mark Janis Ballesteros immediately coordinated with Police Sub-station 9, Caloocan City Police Station (CCPS), to locate the victim’s body.
The suspect led the operatives of QCPD Station 3 and Police Substation 9 to the place where he buried the victim.
The body was exhumed and positively identified by the victim’s uncle.
Police said that the possible motive of the suspect in killing the victim was jealousy.
According to investigators, the suspect discovered that his girlfriend had an affair with another man.
Appropriate charges will be filed against the suspect, police said. (Hannah Nicol)
