Two dead as tanker with 40K liters of fuel falls off bridge

NUEVA VIZCAYA – A driver and his helper were killed when the their tanker loaded with 40,000 liters of fuel fell off a bridge and burst into flames Sunday night, September 12, at San Lorenzo Ruiz Bridge National Highway Brgy. Baretbet, Bagabag, Nueva Vizcaya.

Killed were tanker fuel driver Filmor Timbungan, 39, a resident of Magsaysay Naguillian, Isabela and his helper Abner Dula, 32, resident of Reina Mercedes, Isabela.

The latest report from the office of Col. Ranser Evasco, Nueva Vizcaya provincial director said the fuel tanker was coming from Manila to Isabela when the driver lost control of the steering wheel at the entrance of the bridge.

It then crashed into the railing and fell on bottom of the bridge with a depth of 10 meters.

The three other companions of those who died sustained injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital.

They were identified as father Edwin Pacleba, 52, his son Jayson Pacleba, 18, both residents of Palattao, Naguilian, Isabela and Eric Peralta, 34, and residents of Ramon, Isabela.

Police Corporal Nicanor Carino, investigator on case told Manila Bulletin-Tempo that under the bridge there was a bunkhouse of laborers in the construction of the new bridge.

“Marahil nakatulog ang driver at bumangga ito at nahulog saka sumabog”, said the investigator, Police Corporal Nicanor Carino.

Some tricycles, Elf truck and some construction equipment were also burned.
