The 68-team battle for college basketball supremacy begins as the NCAA men's basketball tournament kicks off.
But come April, only one team will be standing as America’s best amateur basketball team. Out of the crowd of contenders, here are the five teams with a legitimate chance of reaching the final branch of the bracket:

Arizona Wildcats
The fact that they have DeAndre Ayton, the favorite to be first-pick in this year’s NBA draft, already makes Arizona a dangerous team.
With a record of 27-7, the Wildcats are ranked 12th going into the tournament. Arizona showed their legitimacy when they won the 12-Pac title. Going into March Madness, a lot of teams have better-looking records than them.
Then again, having a dominant player like the seven-foot-one Ayton is the only you need to know about them and expect that they could go into a deep push this year.

Duke Blue Devils
Duke is one of the teams that makes it far in the tournament the last couple of years. This year, they are once again equipped to march into the final four and possibly win everything when all has been said and done.
Kansas and Michigan State are two legitimate teams that are in the way of the Blue Devils. But with Marvin Bagley III – another top NBA prospect – and Grayson Allen leading the charge, the Devils are one of the squads that fans need to watch out for.
Virginia Cavaliers
Defense is the name of the game for the Cavaliers. They held Rhode Island with 55 points, Virginia Tech at 52, Duke at 63, and they prevented North Carolina to score more than 49 points.
Virginia has a record of 31-2 which places them at the top of the rankings. The collective effort of Kyle Guy, Devon Hall, and Ty Jerome has been phenomenal. And if Virginia’s three weapons continue to play well during the tournament, they are clearly one of the top teams.
If the saying that “Defense wins championships” is to be believed, it is impossible to rule out the Cavs as one of the favorites to take home the NCAA college basketball title.
Kansas Jayhawks
The Jayhawks won their 14th consecutive Big-12 this year and in doing so they have set a new Division One record.
Kansas is straying from the traditional basketball line-up as they are achieving big success by going incredibly small. The Jayhawks are playing four guards: Frank Mason, Devonte Graham, Svi Mykhailiuk, and Lagerald Vick. Meanwhile, Perry Ellis is playing as the lone big-man on the court.
While playing super-small ball has disadvantages – like being bad defensively – one can’t blame coach Bill Self for embracing the system as they have been winning with it.

Villanova Wildcats
This Villanova Wildcats team is stacked with talent as they have four NBA hopefuls: Mikal Bridges, Omari Spellman, Jalen Brunson, and Donte DiVincenzo.
Looking like the Golden State Warriors of college basketball, they have four stars that can out-shoot any opponent on any given night. If Villanova heats up, they are an impossible team to stop. And if they survive the grind of the tourney, they are well on their way to another National title.
