A former professor and prosecutor, President Duterte may return to teaching when his term ends in 2022.

The President said he could give a short lecture about criminal law to policemen to properly guide them in their work.
"In 30 minutes, in a very clear and concise language, I can convey to you what criminal law, criminal procedure, and criminal evidence is. Kaya sayang (Too bad), but anyway maybe in a few years, kung hindi na ako presidente (if I'm no longer President) about two years from now, I could devote my time lecturing," Duterte said at the graduation of the Public Safety Officers Basic Course (PSOBC) class and Public Safety Officers Advance Course (PSOAC) class in Davao City Thursday.
The President said he wanted to give a lecture to the graduating police officers but did not have much time. He said he could have shared with them "a little knowledge of my being a prosecutor."
"I was a trial prosecutor for many years at maibigay ko sana (I could give) in a very --- just listen very carefully I’d give you all that you need to know," he said.
He said they only need to listen to his brief lecture to get a “complete rundown” about criminal procedure. "Makinig ka lang (You should just listen). In about 30 minutes I can give you a complete rundown of what you should know and do as a police. Kaya lang walang panahon. Mag-ga-graduate na kayo (But there is no time left. You're graduating)."
Duterte used teach at a police academy years ago but stopped when he became mayor of Davao City.
In his remarks Thursday, the President told the policemen to perform their duty well and avoid getting involved in any irregularity. He renewed his warning that policemen engaged in illegal drugs, particularly the "ninja cops" will "die."
“Ninja cops” are those who steal illegal drugs seized in operations.
The President, on the other hand, offered his support to policemen in case they face complaints while performing their jobs. He assured them they would not languish in jail especially if they were merely doing their job.
