Antipolo girds for Christmas shopping rush

December 20, 2010, 5:33pm

ANTIPOLO CITY, Philippines — The provincial security personnel here have beefed up their security measures in the provincial capitol compound located in this city in anticipation of the huge crowd of shoppers who will troop to a bazaar here to beat the Christmas shopping rush.

Officials of the Provincial Security of the provincial government has imposed a ban on tricycles inside the capitol compound here after 5 p.m. to ensure the smooth flow of human traffic inside the “Tiangge sa Ynares,” a local bazaar which has been the project of the provincial government since the time of then Gov. Rebecca “Nini” Ynares, mother of present Governor Casimiro “Jun” Ynares III.

Private vehicles are also not spared from the strict security measures being implemented by security personnel as motorists are required to roll down their automobile’s windows upon entering the gate of the capitol compound.

Even stall owners who commute have to bear the burden of having to carry their load from the gate to their selling area as tricycles are banned in the capitol compound after 5 p.m.

“Sana naman exempted yung may paninda kasi mahirap para sa amin na magbitbit ng paninda namin at maglakad mula sa gate hanggang sa stall namin na nasa likod ng Ynares Center (I hope stall owners are exempted from the ban since we have to carry our wares from the gate to our stall which is at the back of the Ynares Center),” a sexagenarian stall owner told Manila Bulletin.

The bazaar offers more than 30 stalls showcasing a wide range of ready-to-wear clothes and assorted toys and dozens of food stalls at the food court and dining area.

Kids and adult can enjoy the rides being offered at the two amusement ride sections, one located near the gate of the capitol compound and the other one at the back of the Ynares Center where the classic Horror Train and Octopus can be found. (Nel B. Andrade)
