Davao City 1st district Rep. Paolo Duterte is not about to give the final word to Makabayan bloc member, ACT Teachers Party-list Rep. France Castro in their ongoing tit-for-tat.
In a statement Thursday, Oct. 26, Rep. Duterte said that he wished Castro had the passion to protect Filipino farmers, particularly those killed by the New People’s Army (NPA).
Rep. Duterte also explained why he has chosen to keep defending his father, former president Rodrigo Duterte, in connection with the issue involving Castro.
"It is imperative upon me to stand by my family and protect my family. I think kahit sino naman, ganun ang gagawin. That's where I'm coming from," the Mindanao congressman said.
As for Castro, Rep. Duterte told her: “You filed a case, let the court look at the merits. Simple as that. Gaya ng sinabi ko (But like what I said, it is your right. But I heard worse.”
“I just wish na sana yung passion mo to sensationalize this further is the same as your passion to protect the farmers and innocent victims na pinatay at biktima ng mga NPA (who were killed and were victims of NPA).”
The NPA is the military wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP), which members of the Duterte family abhor. In s statement Wednesday, Oct. 25, Rep. Duterte said he knew a lot of things about left-leaning solons, which I'd exactly what the Makabayan is.
On Tuesday, Oct. 24, Castro and her counsel filed a charge of grave threat against the former president, who had threatened to "kill" over the confidential funds issue during a television interview two weeks ago.
Rep. Duterte first came out to defend his father Wednesday, when he said public servants shouldn't be "onion-skinned" when it comes to criticisms.
He also pointed out that his father has received "harsher and more humiliating criticisms in the past but he never filed a case against anyone".
“As public servants, we all are under scrutiny by the Filipino people. If the former President has said something that threatened her (Castro), then maybe she should come out clean,” Rep. Duterte said.
