'Kaos,' a must-see musical spectacle at Resorts World Manila

For Filipinos, it’s definitely a must-see visual and musical spectacle, this show called “Kaos” which is ongoing (until May 2011) at the Newport Performing Arts Theater at Resorts World Manila.
Actually, this isn’t only for Filipinos because “Kaos” was conceptualized with an international audience in the mind of the creative team behind it. The story is a timeless tale of love, and it promises to be an engaging experience for the whole family. But what truly sets it apart is the combination of internationally acclaimed acts woven seamlessly together in one show.
The story goes: “In a medieval kingdom, a lonely prince peers into a magical mirror and falls in love with a beautiful maiden from the future. As the past and the future converge, the two discover a love that transcends time, prevailing over a scheming adviser and numerous obstacles.”
The show features thespians in the lead roles. Gian Magdangal plays the valiant prince, while half-Pinay “Canadian Idol” stand-out Martha Joy plays the heroine. Joel Trinidad performs the role of the scheming adviser. With no less than the Manila Symphony Orchestra providing the musical score, “Kaos” has been captivating audiences since it started its run.
Central to the story is none other than the title character Kaos, who happens to be a real and rare white lion. Kaos is part of the menagerie of world-renowned animal performers specially trained by Spanish master illusionist Enrique Polo, who is part of the show along with his other lions and tigers.
Stunt motorcylists from Spain defy gravity in the astounding “Cycle of Life,” while the Human Time Machine performers from South America showcase superb balance and synchronization. Also part of the musical is the Philippine All-Star hip-hop dance champions who energize the show with their winning moves.
Behind “Kaos” is a world-class production team. Andrew Botha from South Africa designed the magnificent set pieces, while seasoned costume designer Liudmila Karpinka brought to life elaborate and beautifully detailed medieval and futuristic costumes for the story. Veterans of various Star Cruises productions, Khmelnytsky Oleksandr and Donchanka Nataliya collaborated on the amazing choreography of “Kaos.”
Resorts World Manila’s Colin Kerr leads the show as executive producer, with Sviatlana Burkun as production manager.
Audiences can now catch “Kaos” up to six times weekly at the Newport Performing Arts Theater. The 1,500-seat theater boasts of the largest LED wall ever built in the Philippines.

R&B Princess Kyla back with 8th album
R&B Princess Kyla is back with “Private Affair” her eighth album under Polyeast Records and which was recorded in a span of three months. Featured in the CD is the first single “Mahal Kita (Di Mo Pansin),” which dominated the airlanes in its first two weeks of release. The highly-anticipated album truly showcases Kyla as a definitive R&B/soul singer to emerge in this decade.
“Private Affair,” with its beautiful selection, is indeed a much fitting album for her to close 2010 with a bang. A stamd-out in the album is “Don’t Tie Me Down,” which Kyla produced and co-wrote with her friends and also OPM’s R&B gems: Jay-R, Billy Crawford, Kris Lawrence and Jimmy Muna.
“I had an unforgettable experience making this song, aside from doing it with my friends” Kyla said.
The only remake in “Private Affair” is her R&B but sultry version of “How Deep Is Your Love” which was recorded by the BeeGees in 1977. Other original songs in the album are “Listen,” “Dali Na Lang,” “Comouflage,” “It’s All About Us,” “Keep The Faith,” and a bonus House mix version of “Don’t Tie Me Down.”
