Espino promotes healthy lifestyle

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan — At the close of the year 2010, Governor Amado Espino enjoined all local government employees and public servants to commit to a healthy lifestyle in the New Year, saying that good health makes them more efficient in delivering public service.

Espino said that while his administration pushes for health insurance coverage for indigent families throughout Pangasinan, he aims at decreasing risk factors related to lifestyle diseases.

Thus, he will continue to advocate clean living among his employees. In line with this, the provincial government will launch on February 14 its Health Risk Management Program.

The governor urged all provincial employees to participate in the program which will promote healthy lifestyles, a healthy diet and physical exercise for the early detection and proper management of non-communicable lifestyle and degenerative diseases. (Liezle Basa Iñigo)

Mayor hurls 10 challenges to residents
BAGUIO CITY – Mayor Mauricio G. Domogan begins the New Year with a challenge to his constituents: Abide by 10 practical tips that will bring back the city’s grandeur in 2011.

To help promote the city as a prime tourist destination, Domogan said local residents and visitors must be able to follow the law, follow traffic rules since they are the most basic of the city’ laws.

He said residents must always demand for official receipts and voluntarily pay taxes since doing so helps government projects.

He wants people to avoid buying smuggled goods but instead buy Filipino products since our money should support the local economy. Instead of contributing to the problems created by natural and man-made calamities, Domogan reminded people to speak positively about the country’s Summer Capital in order to advertise and promote it in a positive way.

The mayor said people must respect traffic officers, policemen and other public servants since respect honors and dignifies a man and compels him to do his job right.

In order to contribute solve the city’s worsening garbage problem, local residents and visitors must throw their garbage properly, segregate, recycle and conserve since the city is our home, thus, it is our responsibility to keep it clean and beautiful together and make Baguio the cleanest and greenest highly urbanized city again.

Adults must be good parents and guardians by teaching their children to love our city, citing that if we start planting the seeds of patriotism in the hearts and minds of today’s youth, they would become giant patriots and builders of our city and the nation in the future. (Dexter A. See)

Van collides with truck
CAVITE, Philippines  — A man died last Thursday when the van he was driving accidentally collided with a maneuvering trailer-truck in front of a compound in Dasmariñas City, Cavite.

Police identified the victim as Lito L. Romanos, 42, of West Plain Subdivision, Trece Martires City, Cavite. Romanos, was declared dead on arrival at M.V Santiago Clinic in Dasmariñas.

He sustained head and body injuries.

The driver of the truck, one Ruben C. Galleros, gave up to the police following the accident.

Police Officer 1 Jesus Baes, officer-on-case, said that the accident occurred at FCIE Compound, Governor’s Drive, Barangay Langkaan II, at 5 a.m. Thursday. The Kia Besta van (WRB-648) driven by Romanos reportedly hit the rear of the Fuso tractor-trailer (RJE-305) driven by Galleros that was turning left in the area. (Anthony Giron)
