DepEd promotes K+12 program

ILOILO CITY, Philippines (PNA) – The Department of Education (DepEd) Regional Office 6 has instructed all the division superintendents and other school officials to actively advocate for their priority program the K+12 (Kindergarten plus 12) which is intended to better prepare the students for future employment.

DepEd regional director Mildred Garay said during their regional management committee meeting with the 18 division superintendents including that of Escalante Interim Division they instructed them to advocate for the K+12 program.

Under the K+12 program, two years would be added in the school curriculum in order to produce employable 18-year-old high school graduates because of the longer time required of them to study and master their employable skills.

CAUSE OF NEGROS CALAMITY CITED

ILOILO CITY, Philippines (PNA) – The local chief executive of EB Magalona in Negros Occidental has put the blame on illegal logging activity for the onslaught of flashflood last Tuesday in Northern Negros.

Mayor Albert David Lacson said there's a need for the strict enforcement of the law against illegal logging operations to prevent massive floods at the instance of rain.

Lacson said the devastating flood was also an offshoot of forest denudation brought about by the wanton cutting of our forest reserves in the mountains in Negros.

The massive flash flood was the first ever incident they have experienced in just a matter of nine hours of heavy rain.

ILOILO CITY CLEANS UP

ILOILO CITY, Philippines (PNA) – Mayor Jed Patrick E. Mabilog declared the city already clean, due to sustained clean-up efforts done by both government and private sector. Cleanliness of the city is foremost in his agenda as chief executive.

Together with the private sector, city departments like the City Environment and Natural Resources Office, Special Services Unit and the Office of General Services, ensure the upkeep of the metropolis on regular basis. With this, Mabilog believes a clean-up plan to prepare the city for the Dinagyang Festival is no longer needed.

WARNING RAISED ON FAKE MONEY

ILOILO CITY, Philippines (PNA) – Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog has issued a warning to the Ilonggo community against the proliferation of counterfeit money during the week-long Dinagyang Festival.

Mabilog said criminal elements may use the festive period to spread fake money to unsuspecting revelers and sellers as the city is on frenzy over the world-famous festival.

The city mayor said there were past incidents that counterfeit bills spread during festival events in the city. The usual victims are restaurants and stores at the food festival area where criminal elements converge usually at nighttime.

POLICE ORDER GUARDS’ TRAINING

ILOILO CITY, Philippines (PNA) – The regional director of Police Regional Office 6 (PRO6) based at Camp Martin Delgado in Western Visayas has ordered the training of bank security guards in Iloilo City.

PRO6 regional director Police Chief Supt. Cipriano Querol Jr. said this training aims to help boost the guards' knowledge on implementing security measures against attempts to rob banks.

During the training, discussions will also focus on security lapses related to the East West Bank heist earlier this month.
